Hi, I’m Monserrat, a Mexican economist and data scientist driven by the belief that technology should help everyone, not just a few. My journey with data began in Mexico, where I worked at think tanks analyzing tough issues like crime, public safety, and justice reform. Those experiences taught me how powerful data can be when used with purpose and care.
Now, I’m based in Berlin, finishing my Master’s in Data Science for Public Policy at the Hertie School and working as a student assistant at the Weizenbaum Institute in the Digital Economy and Internet Policy research group. I spend my days exploring how AI and data systems can support social progress and ensure no one is left behind. My thesis examines the energy consumption and environmental impact of data centers in Europe, and I’m eager to keep exploring the value chains behind AI and the digital economy, always with a focus on building technology that serves humanity, not the other way around.
I’m also the co-founder of Hijas de Internet (Daughters of the Internet) where we advocate for digital spaces that are safer, more diverse and inclusive for all people, especially in Mexico and the Global South. In this collaborative space, we create podcasts, digital advocacy campaigns, and research reports.
